I really like the bowl of cherries image behind the To Do list. :)

Thank you, Jason. That's the only photograph in the entire video that's mine. (All of the others were used with permission, of course.) You can see the original "bowl of cherries" photo in my January 7 post. Click on the picture to enlarge it--but be careful not to drool on your keyboard!

Wow, Brenda,
That's one of the best video trailers I have seen. It really makes me want to buy the book...so that's good! I've enjoyed all your books and will look forward to reading this one too!

I love it Brenda. I've made a book trailer too. Figuring out how almost killed me, I'm such a techno-phobe. Did you do this yourself? Great feel and pictures and words. Excellent.

Thanks, Carrie and Mary. Yes, I made this myself--with Windows Movie Maker.

Brenda, I love your books and this one looks fantastic! I love the trailer. The music really adds to it and builds the anticipation. Really loved the heart in the clouds.

Welcome to the future Brenda. Great trailer. I ran across a company that does this and thought, "Why not do my own?" You can see mine and other Christian Fiction Review Blog members book trailers at:
http://cfrblog.blogspot.com Then click on the link for our trailers. If memory serves me correctly each author made their own with one exception. I even made one for Mary, but she went on and out-did me. We make a great team.

The part that was the "hook" for me:

The part that says "This Winter in Chicago"...Two hearts will be broken.

Snap.

The beginning was really slow. The list didn't work for me. Hated the cherry bowl (unlike previous
person).

Liked the middle part with the contrast. But the clincher "This winter in Chicago...two hearts will be broken." Yeah, baby. Lemme see those hearts CRACK AWAY!!!!!!!!!!

BTW, what I meant with "hated the cherry bowl" wasn't the picture isn't nice. It just doesn't say "drama, romance, heartbreak, forgiveness." It says, "Time out, take a rest, write a note." And that's not dramatic. BUT..had a sort of women's fiction/chick Lit undertone.

Thought that needed clarification, cause, yes, I was unclear.

I hear you, Mir. But the book's about more than just those things. Like my other novels, this one includes a lot of humor mixed in with the pathos, so I lightened up the trailer. Like you, my Number One Son thought the prologue was boring. But it says what I wanted it to say about the book (the heroine is an academic, an optimist, a planner, and she's content with her life--hence the notepaper with a bowl of cherries on it). One of my friends tickled me by saying it reminded her of a Merchant-Ivory film. I wasn't shooting for that, but I'll take the compliment.
;-)

Thanks, Carol and Lianne, for taking the time to look at my video and leave such nice comments. David, thanks for sharing those other trailers. I was curious, so I clicked over. I'm sure many others will, as well. And, hey--congratulations on the Deadly Inks nomination.

Squirl, thanks for the warm fuzzies.

Trudy, stay tuned. Because so many people have been e-mailing me privately, tomorrow (Monday) I will post instructions for creating your own book trailer.

Nice job, Brenda.
It's been a long time since I read a romance. (I'm into mysteries and Christian living-type books.)
I'm tempted. :-)
Good job.

Awesome! Incredible job!

Brenda, once again showing unmistakable genius, hooks her readers with an intriguing trailer. The music pulled me in. The words made me curious. "Two hearts will be broken" socked me in the gut. I'm buying this book.

The music did me in, especially when it changes from intense to life-giving at the first mention of the book's title. Minor to major signaled the happy ending.

Fabulous!

That exerpt is killer, Brenda (ha, ha ha! I slay myself). Action, excitement, drop-dead gorgeous guys in pairs. Talk about starting in the middle of action.

I guess I'll be reading at least one more inspy fiction before I retire.

I didn't need the trailer as an incentive to buy the book. I would have done so anyway. I've only been waiting FOREVER!! Okay, slight exageration. That being said, I LOVED IT! That hook, "This winter in Chicago...Two hearts will be broken," gave me chills and made MY heart ache. Beautifully done, Brenda!

Hi Brenda -

I left you a comment on the RT boards about this trailer, but my question was answered. You made the trailer yourself.

That's awesome! And I'm looking forward to the book. :o)

At 9:28 AM, June 04, 2007, Blogger Brenda Coulter said...

Jenster, how nice to "see" you here at my blog. Thanks for stopping by.

"Unmistakable genius," Domino? I'm thinking about hiring you to do my PR work. ;-) Thanks for the lavish praise. Even my sister doesn't go quite that far!

Julana and Katrina, it's always good to hear from you both. I know romance novels aren't your thing, but I haven't given up on trying to convert you. ;-) Thanks for taking a look at my trailer.

Shauna, my twisted mind delights in making the hero and heroine suffer before they reach their happy ending. Rather than "two hearts will be broken," I should have said "two hearts will be smashed, ground to a fine powder, and flung to the scorching winds of a barren desert."

Yeah. I like that a lot.
;-)

If you're looking for a little more blunt commentary...it was way, way too long for me. I lost interest part way through. Also, it moved too slowly. I can read much more quickly than that.

Some of the pictures, though, were beautiful, and I did like the quick cuts of risk-taker hero jumping out of the airplane.

I find it very funny that you spent so much time on a book trailer when you have had previous posts where you didn't think all too highly of them. Maybe I'm remembering wrong?

I don't like book trailers. I'd rather read a good 'back of the book' snippet over this. But I guess there are people out there who like these things...

At 8:08 PM, June 04, 2007, Blogger Brenda Coulter said...

Oh, I don't expect to please everyone, Anonymous. Thanks for taking a look.

You're right that I once wrote about not liking book trailers. That was last summer, and since then I haven't materially changed my opinion. There are some truly awful book trailers out there; even many of the ones that have been professionally produced are nothing to brag about.

Just to clarify, while I hope my trailer will create some buzz for my book, I don't for a minute expect that. I think I have made clear, especially in this post that I am simply conducting an experiment. I made a book trailer because it was a creative challenge and I thought it might sell a book or two.

Thanks for the heads up, Brenda! I'll be sure to have a box of kleenex handy...and a paper bag. Just incase I hyperventilate taking all those deep breaths to relieve the constriction in my chest. LOL! I can't wait!!

Brenda,

Sorry I got a little mushy over the trailer. I should've waited to read the book. Then I can get mushy all over Amazon reviews, B&N reviews, Borders, CBD, etc.

Can I help it if I like your books?

Hi Brenda - Glad to see you produced a book trailer - especially after all that ranting and raving from commenters back in 2006. Although I think the trailer for your book A SEASON OF FORGIVENESS, was entertaining and telling, I feel that book trailers work better for non-fiction books than fictional books. These usually don't have the "cheesy" affect that actors, etc, have, as they are more factual and informational. I am the author of YOUR ADOPTED DOG, and we had a trailer made for our book which you can see at www.youradopteddog.com. Hope you can check it out!

Thanks Brenda!

Hi Brenda,

My name is Donna Lea Simpson, and I'm a novelist, and also write articles on romance writing for Suite 101, an information site. I tried to e-mail you with a couple of questions about your book video, but my e-mail keeps getting bounced back to me. It could be because I use yahoo mail, and some ISP's block it.

If you have a few moments, could you e-mail me at donnawritesromance@yahoo.com ?
I find that even blocked addresses usually work in a 'reply' format, and I can probably write to you that way. Don't worry about approving this as a comment... just delete it.

I'd appreciate it so much. Thanks, Brenda!

Best,
Donna

[Chuckle.] Shelley, I'm afraid the truth is that I haven't materially changed my mind about book trailers. I don't believe my own effort was of high quality, but it was the very best I could do, and I had fun making it.

Donna, I'm sorry you had trouble getting through. I'll pop over to my inbox now and see if I can find your message.
