Don't forget to call your mom today

I took this photo in my garden yesterday morning. For some reason, this electric-blue clematis made me think of my mom.

happy mother's day, Brenda!

My clematis was new last year, and isn't near blooming yet, but looking forward to it. Nice photo!

Happy belated Mother's Day!

I posted a "love letter to Mom" on my baseball blog...

...and put out the U.S. Flag with my
2 1/2 year old to honor her mom.

BTW did you know that the U.S. Flag Code recognizes Mother's Day as an official Flag displaying holiday while Father's Day is not?

I'm not surprised, Luke. Mother's Day is quite an old holiday (more than a hundred years, I believe), while Father's Day is fairly recent. I'll hazard a guess that the last time the flag-display list was updated, Father's Day hadn't yet been introduced.

I'm not going to look it up because my wireless connection is down today and I'm on dial-up.
(Yuck!)

What would we do without wireless?

Would you believe that Father's Day wasn't made official until 1972 under President Nixon?

According to the preamble of the Flag Code it's been amended and or approved by Congress a number of times since '72.

One reason could be that "Flag Day" is so close to Father's Day, but that doesn't necessarily make sense because of the proximity of Mother's day and Memorial Day in May.

Regardless, I like the idea of having an extra "special" flag day for mom's. I'm trying to spread the word with my guy friends to display the flag for their mom's/wives.

That's lovely. On behalf of moms everywhere, thank you!
