Excuse for not blogging #314

When my brother was very young and our grandmother would ask to speak with him on the telephone, he would chat for a minute and then abruptly announce, "I'm tired of talking to you now." Before Gram could get another word out, he'd put down the phone down and run off to play.

That's been a joke in our family for years, and while I never hang up on my loved ones without a proper goodbye, I do sometimes employ my brother's words as a humorous hint that I need to get off the phone.

I'm explaining all this so that when I say, "I'm tired of blogging at you now," you won't think I don't love you. I'll be back on Monday, just like always, but right now the weekend is beckoning, and this girl is outta here.

Not offended.

One of my old pals (moved away now) was someone I really appreciated for letting me be me. If she called and I was in full-out hermit mode, I could--instead of just avoiding answering--say to her, "I'm not feeling like a talk," and she'd get it.

It's nice when people understand that "I don't feel like a chat now" isn't a put-down of them as friends, but more just a statement of how you are and what you can handle that day. Sure, I could make fake-chat, we all do that sometimes, but with real pals, you don't have to fake it. :D
