Another blog surprise

Remember this post on The Blog Surprise? In the comments on that page, author Shelley Bates, a 2005 RITA award winner for her first inspirational romance, Grounds to Believe, (which was edited, you may be interested to know, by my own editor--not that my talent is on the same plane as Shelley's, but I had you really impressed there for a couple of seconds, didn't I?) has just started blogging. Let's all troop over to Shelley's brand-new blog and welcome her to the neighborhood.

I was just about to hit the Publish button and shoot this post into the blogisphere when I chuckled over the realization that after posting earlier this morning about Keats, I am now writing about Shelley. As someone who named her firstborn after a character in a Wagnerian opera, I can't help wondering if Shelley (yes, that's her real name; she writes under that and also a pseudonym) was named for the poet.

I love this game. It's a lot of fun and it's great to introduce new blogs.

Now you need to devote a post to Real People's Byron Allen...

LOL about naming children.

I wanted to name my lastborn Blake SO badly (after William Blake).

My DH, however, thinks you have to name children after people you actually know. I tried to convince him I really do know William Blake, but he wasn't buying it. Sigh.

Just think though, if I moved in more literary circles (so that I actually knew people named Bronte or Byron or Chaucer), what my children might have been named.

Thanks for the shout-out, Brenda, and thanks to your readers who popped over to say hello!

No, I wasn't named after the poet, my mum just liked the name :) People constantly misspell it or think it's a nickname for Michelle. And many times, I'll say, "It's spelled Shelley, with an e, you know--like the poet."

Blank stare.

You're very welcome, Shelley, and I wish you all the best with the new blog.

When I order things over the phone, I'm careful to spell out my last name. But you wouldn't believe how many people ask, "...and is that B-R-E-N-D-A?"

Well, what else would it be? Sheesh!
