Speak up--this blogger doesn't bite (much)

Welcome, visitors from MSNBC's Clicked, one of my daily blog reads. Will is a gentleman and a scholar, and I'd say that even if he wasn't linking to me today.

If you haven't figured it out yet, I'll tell you: One of the best things about this blog is the comments section. From time to time I see a rash of comment spam or get a nastygram from some troglodyte who wants to drag me into a blog war, and I fantasize about disabling the comment feature. But then I come across a comment that's hilarious or thought-provoking or helpful or heartwarming and I remember why I allow comments on this blog. Even anonymous ones.

If you're new around here, or if you've been reading for a while but have never added your voice to these conversations, please speak up. (I generally go pretty easy on new people.) And if you're not in the habit of clicking on the comments after you read one my entries, you're missing out because the comments are often way better than the posts around here.

Here's a great example: If my post about the portrait of the "black" Revolutionary War sailor interested you, click back over there and read the fourth comment.

Brenda,

Thought I would come out of the mist and say hello. I've been reading your blog for a while now. I can't remember how I came to find you.....could've been GOB. Anyway, I just wanted to say keep up the good work - you've got a great blog here!

A thousand thank-you's, Ms. Eigler. (Nice picture, by the way.) I'm always delighted when a lurker comes out of the shadows and gives me the chance to offer a personal welcome. And I owe a great deal to Michael Allen over at GOB. He's sent me lots of new friends.

Becca, stop taunting me. ;-) I know WordPress is way ahead of Blogger. I wish Blogger would allow postdated entries. I'd love to be able to write something today that would post itself tomorrow at a preset time. But a switchover right now just seems like too much trouble. Besides, there are currently about 300 snazzy purple pens all over the U.S. and Canada that say, "http://BrendaCoulter.Blogspot.com" on them.

Snazzy purple pens? First I've heard of those! Time for a contest with a giveaway, hmmmm?

I've been on LiveJournal for about a year and a half. It does let you postdate something, but it posts it immediately, just with a later date/time (a shame, really).

I recently started a Blogspot, and got the nasty surprise of seven spam comments within a couple of hours. And I hate that word verifier (I can *never* get it right the first time), but I guess I have to use it. I'd never had ONE spam comment at LJ. On the other hand, LJ doesn't have the cool sidebars.

My host also supports Wordpress, and I'm looking into it as well.

So I've appreciated your comments here. And, as always, appreciate your blog. I missed you when you were rerunning entries.

I'm on blogspot and I've never had a spam comment. (Gimme some wood!)

Even though I don't comment all the time, I do check in with you everyday. You're in my favorites! Hopefully someday I'll have enough people visit my blog and they will bounce over to you from my sidebar.

Enjoy that garden.

I love getting comments as well. Unfortunately, I don't get many and I can get jealous/envious of those blogs who get a lot.

I've enabled the word verification (as you have) to get rid of the spam. So far I haven't had nasty comments - yet.

I learned about the need for word verification very fast *blush* those Nigerians really have issues...LOL!

Yeah, Katrina, I need to do another contest. It's on my list. And right now I'm out of snazzy purple pens, but I plan to order more.

Amy, thanks for the kind thoughts.

Shelley, I am going to your blog right now to leave a comment.

Bonnie, I thought you were a kindhearted lady. You mean you're not willing to help the poor widow of Dr. What's-his-name circumvent her government's corrupt policies and get the millions that are coming to her?
