Garden Pictures

Although my mutant migraine has finally started to ease off, it's now in its twelfth day, and that's my excuse for the sketchy blogging lately. It's been a beautiful day here in the neighborhood, and I felt like I was being cheated out of spring, so a little while ago I closed my eyes almost to slits (light hurts) and ventured outside to see what all this sunshine has accomplished in my garden. Now blooming in the Trees and Shrubs Department, we have an eastern redbud, a flowering quince, some white lilacs, purple lilacs, the viburnum hedges (which are nearly as fragrant as the lilacs), and the (pink) flowering dogwoods. There aren't a lot of flowers yet; just primroses, bleeding hearts, creeping phlox, Virginia bluebells, periwinkle, and brunnera. All of the spring bulbs are dying back, but it's still too early to put out annuals. The roses bushes are leafing out nicely, but it'll be a while yet before they bloom.

By the way, the hammock you'll see in a minute is not mine. That's where my hunk o' burnin' love sneaks off to read John Grisham books.

Hi Brenda,

I'm interested in starting a professional blog--much like yours--and I was wondering if you have any tips that perhaps you could share. :-)

Thank you!

Your Sister in Christ,

Jade

Jade, this is gonna be quick, because I'm working with a headache here.

Find a handful of blogs that you love. Now start making some lists. Why do you love those blogs? What is it about them that keeps you coming back to read more? The more detailed your list becomes, the closer you'll be to discovering your own blogging personality.

Next, figure how you can implement some of the good ideas you've seen on your favorite blogs. Start small and build slowly. And remember: if you're not having fun, you're doing it wrong!

You are a rich woman. We do, at least, have a weeping cherry.

Both of my magnolias are coming into bloom nicely. maybe by Tuesday or Wednesday I'll have some good pictures....if this torrential rain doesn't knock off all the flowers!

I love weeping cherries and magnolias, but have neither. Still, as Julana says, I am "rich."

Robin, thanks for the kind wishes.

If you're in the market for a hammock, Mir, I highly recommend this one, which is from Lands' End. We've left it up from spring to late fall for the past two years, and it's still in great shape. Our last hammock was from Smith & Hawken, and although it cost way more, it didn't last nearly this long in the sun and rain.

Hi Brenda! I am totally in love with your husbands reading hideaway! I want to know if its ok with you for me to save this picture to my computer? I will not distribute it, I only want to use it as a wallpaper on my desktop. When stress rules my day I could easily drift away and dream of myself reading in a place like that with my kids playing close by. That picture made me smile when I saw it..the others are all beautiful but that hammock shot is so amazingly well done!

Why, certainly, Sharon. I'm flattered that you like the photo so much. Thanks.

Unless otherwise noted, all photos on this blog are mine. They can be copied and pasted on other sites as long as they're clearly marked as mine, and a link is provided to my blog.
