Winter wonderland

Yesterday in the midst of a picturesque snowfall, my hunk o' burnin' love strung up our outdoor Christmas lights. Although you can't see the lights in this photo, which was taken late yesterday afternoon, he didn't forget to decorate the two flowering dogwoods that stand outside our dining room windows.

I love these little trees and the fact that they're visible from inside the house. In the spring we're treated to a show of pretty pink flowers, in the summer we enjoy the dappled shade provided by the lush green leaves, in the fall we see pretty red berries as the leaves turn, and in the winter we get this. Life is good.


Here's what our back yard looked like before I tramped to the far end of it to look back at the snow-blanketed house. I was a little surprised to learn that even at my age, there's still something thrilling about being the first person to make tracks across a pristine expanse of snow.
