Tips for my blogging buds

A couple of times I've mentioned Paris Hilton on this blog and jested that I was hoping to get more traffic from the search engines, but Paris fans have stayed away in droves. When I mentioned Oprah Winfrey, however, Google's ears perked up. Now every day they shoot me two or three people who are looking for the Big O's mailing address. I don't have it. I never said I had it. But Oprah's website does not publish her mailing address, so her desperate fans are coming here.

And they've very welcome. Especially if they're at all interested in hearing about my inspirational romance novels. I have one coming out in March, as a matter of fact. It's called-- Hey. Where's everybody going? Please wait. Let me check my Rolodex one more time. I'm pretty sure she lives in Chicago . . . .

Uh, where was I? Oh, yes. My big traffic-grabbing tip for bloggers is this: If you want a serious traffic spike that keeps on giving, write an interesting post that mentions Moleskine notebooks and hope it gets picked up by the frighteningly popular Moleskinerie.com. I was stunned one morning to learn they'd spotlighted one of my posts and sent me 350 visitors in a 12-hour period. That was back in April, but my post is still in their archives, and my referrer logs still show three or four visitors coming in from that site every single day.

Since I have a mind like a steel sieve, it didn't occur to me that yesterday's post about Neal's Moleskine article would bring me traffic from Technorati. But overnight, a bunch of people looking for posts on the little black books stopped by my blog. Of course I'm slipping down on the results page as Technorati picks up more recent blog entries about Moleskines, but this post should put me back on top for a little while today.

Welcome, Moleskine fans who use Technorati. I'm afraid this post is about blog traffic, not Moleskine notebooks, but since you're already here, perhaps you'd like to hear about my inspirational romance novel that's coming out in March. It's called-- Oh, all right. Be that way.

Ahem. So the word for the day, kids, is Moleskine. You want to get famous fast, just blog about the little black notebooks. And then hope the stampede of visitors doesn't crash your server.

Relax, Jan. No moles are harmed in the manufacture of these notebooks. ;-)

I'm afraid I too came for the Moleskines (from Technorati) since that is what I blog about as well. If you keep this up perhaps you will get MY whopping 35 visitors in a 12 hour period as well! Great blog all around, thanks! - Ninth Wave

Little black books? Forget about it. Have you see the new little RED Moleskine? I took your advice, Brenda, and blogged about it. We'll see if the hits roll in. Maybe Terry Teachout will be quoting me by this time next week. :)

Ha. I just learned that the very classy and literary J. Mark Bertrand has finally come over to the Dark Side and linked to my blog. Who else is ready to fall?

Ninth Wave, thanks for stopping by. I just visited your blog and--oh, wow. What gorgeous designs! Everybody click over there for a rare visual treat.

Julana, thanks for ordering my book. If you like it, please be sure to tell everyone. ;-)

Hee hee. You do make me laugh Brenda :-) Nice post. Actually, Moleskinerie must be very popular, because that's where a lot of my visitors come from still (I've been mentioned on Moleskinerie twice now, Moleskine stats fans, even if they did get my first name wrong the second time, but I'll forgive them ...).

Now, I must check out this tecnorati thing, since I see it mentioned all over the place, and I only have the vaguest notion about what it is.

Now, one more time: Moleskine. Moleskine and GTD. Moleskine and Oprah Winfrey's email address.

I think moleskine that moleskine this was a moleskine very funny Paris Hilton moleskin entry, Brenda moleskine Oprah.

Thanks for the thought, Pacatrue, but I'm not sure Google is impressed by keyword-stuffing anymore. ;-)

Neal, I hadn't even thought about putting up a Getting Things Done post. GTD sites and posts are almost as hot as Moleskine stuff right now. I've gotta get me a piece of that action!
